Mike Marathon

H O P E    B I G

On Memorial Day 2015, my father collapsed while riding his bicycle in Lake Helen, Florida. He was found, resuscitated, and airlifted to the Cardiovascular ICU at the Florida Hospital in Ormand Beach. But he was without oxygen for too long, and his brain suffered the consequences.

Four days after entering the hospital, the neurologist read us the MRI results of Mike's head.  He explained that the Mike we knew was gone, that he would likely never speak or walk again, that he might never wake up.

In the months that have followed, we have seen my father defy all odds. He did come out of a coma, he learned to breathe independently, and he started talking again.
